One for all the designers out there, the favourites of Michael C Place from Build. Not only is the set itself a great archive, but I actually never knew Flickr had this functionality.

Hyperwords is an initiative to truly release the infinite promise of the internet. Holy shit, that sounds heavy but i think you'll agree its true after the jump. Essentially it allows you to decide what words on ANY site should be hyperlinked - but even more, it gives you the control over where they link to! Insane, and when its finally released for all platforms it could be truly revolutionary. Try it out here via Big Joel

As with all leading-edge technologies, eventually they get corrupted from their often utopic possibilities and become just another way for advertisers to deceive the unsuspecting (read not cynical enough) population. Finally its happened to the blogosphere in the form of PayPerPost (among others not doubt). In their words: "With PayPerPost advertisers are willing to pay you for your opinion on various topics." Ok, you can officially shed tears now... via the independent

Ok we've got a global event coming up on flickr - trying to visually answer the question of what exactly does happen in one day on this big big planet of ours? Best of all, if your photo gets selected, it gets printed in a book for MSF and they get money from flickr too! Everyone wins, so et your cameras out now!

Penguin Books jumps on the whole web 2.0 / co-creation / croudsourcing / user-generated / insert more buzzwords here, bandwagon with a wiki that allows anyone to contribute to the writing of a novel. But beware the Ts&C's: "By posting your submission on the Wiki Novel and the Site, you grant us a non-exclusive, perpetual, royalty-free, world-wide licence to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, translate, publish, distribute and display any content you submit to us in any format now known or later developed. If you do not want to grant us these rights, please do not submit your content to us." via chris b

This Australian initiative is trying to use myspace as a casting agent by tapping into everyone's desire to be famous - be it for 15mb or 15mins. I think its a super simple idea and thus is almost certain to work very very well...

Hack-Able Curator is an interesting idea whereby a robotic arm takes over the role of curator in a photographic exhibition. By using a combination of Flickr as the source and an SMS rating system, the project effectively hands control over to the user/viewer. Not only is this a very cool idea, but being able to affect an exhibitionis a compelling one indeed. But obviously it could be anything that you are affecting, and the grander the scale the better the impact. Imagine if you could control the lights on a bridge? Rr what film gets played at your local cinema? or... whatever...

The winner of the online Adicolor competition has just been announced, and its this pair of Hokusai-inspired kicks from Ari Lankin from NYC - which is fitting I guess, as they will be produced in a super-limited edition of 25 pairs, and only available from the NY Originals store

OK, this is a shameless piece of self-promotion, but yours truly has been published in Computer Arts. The piece covers digital branding and in a nutshell my argument goes something like this:
What is becoming interesting is that online brands can - and indeed must - interact individually with the end-user. To this end, systems as opposed to static logos are the future. Finally is also no reason why brand identities will remain exempt from the remix/web 2.0 phenomenon.

Started in Berlin by Xgeronimo and continued in Seoul by Rebelbaby, "I _ this ad" brings dialogue to the one-way street that has been Ad-land for as long as we all can remember. Though not the first time this idea has been done, what I like about this version is the nice hybrid between the über-crafted language of advertising and the off-the-cuff language of online emoticons... It's not quite Web 2.0 for outdoor, but its a start to giving voice - and dialogue - back to the normally voiceless targets of the Ad beast.

Just a quick follow up to my previous post on Leo's opening up shop in second life - BBH has just copied them - though both are still (currently) inactive. I wonder when de-construct will get an office? I'm also beginning to think that opening up an interior-design business in second life wouldn't at all be a bad idea... via MIT Advertising Lab

Focussing "only on sound, not songs" - The Freesound Project is an online library of 20,000+ samples released under the Creative Commons license. Again a boon for all us visual creatives in need of sound and strapped for budget...

Using the tagline "Meet. Mix. Mashup.", Splice is a new concept in sound/music creation. Its essentially a sound library released under the Creative Commons license that encourages the community to reuse, redit and generally just mash-up the available content... Could be a boon for visual creative types needing some (free) sounds. Let's hope the quality is better than the average web 2.0 / user-gen rubbish
