Ryan McGinley was recently awarded Young Photographer of the Year. His photos remind me of Bill Henson, but more hedonistic and without the haunting darkness. In a way this makes them less interesting, but beautiful and real/honest nonetheless...

Ok we've got a global event coming up on flickr - trying to visually answer the question of what exactly does happen in one day on this big big planet of ours? Best of all, if your photo gets selected, it gets printed in a book for MSF and they get money from flickr too! Everyone wins, so et your cameras out now!

A little unusual in its application, but no less addictive i'd say ;) And think about all those annoying bleeps being replaced by the woderously sublime sound of smashing glass...

Hack-Able Curator is an interesting idea whereby a robotic arm takes over the role of curator in a photographic exhibition. By using a combination of Flickr as the source and an SMS rating system, the project effectively hands control over to the user/viewer. Not only is this a very cool idea, but being able to affect an exhibitionis a compelling one indeed. But obviously it could be anything that you are affecting, and the grander the scale the better the impact. Imagine if you could control the lights on a bridge? Rr what film gets played at your local cinema? or... whatever...

A lovely 60-year time-lapse of one of my favourite cities by Douglas Levere. Much has changed, but in images 19/20 at least, its nice to see that at least some things remain the same...

An interesting project from my home town, The Face of Sydney attempts to "provide a representative male and female “look for the 160,000 residents of Sydney’s City of Villages". 1,000 portraits were taken across an ethnically-true cross-section and then combined to form the average - or generic - face of Sydney.
What's interesting for me are two things:
1. just how androgynous this generic face is
2. how different the haymarket portrait is (although no surprise considering that's where chinatown is)

Ok, its about time I began doing something with all the photos I take whilst roaming the streets of London, armed only with my camera phone... So here it is, the beginning of a flickr photoset... Enjoy

One of the coolest, most intuitive things I've seen for a while is this a.Pix digital camera which is basically a real-time cropping tool with an integrated digital camera. I can think of no better way to train one's eye in the art of composition than something as instantaneous as this. Awesome!
