RabbitHoles 3D is some pretty cool tech, but waaaay under-utilised IMHO.
“The pieces are printed in the amazing form of RabbitHoles state-of-the-art digital motion holograms, which display 1280 frames of full-color, 3D imagery with up to ten seconds of fluid and seamless animation on a completely flat surface.”
Why is it that tech-leading artists have such a horrible aesthetic? The only artist that actually thought about the medium and what makes it interesting is Nape of the Neck by Jeremy Engleman (around 05:28).
Anyway it will be interesting to see if and how it gets picked up moving forward.

Someone has mixed politics and geek-ism to perfection in this wonderfully poignant film about ‘Imperial Fleet Week’. I wonder if any of the Americans watching this made the leap into empathising for the Iraqis? Or if it was just a really good bit of motion tracking?

Lovely piece of motion graphics for the Zurich Chamber Orchestra. Such a simple idea – to make the piece of music into a literal rollercoaster, to mimic the emotions embodied in the music. The only thing that lets it down is the cheesy red endline “Great Emotions” which seems slapped on at the last minute and is in no way integrated into the design of the piece.

Obviously they never got that message at Uniqlo HQ in Japan. Again they’ve released a lyrically beautiful piece of motion that just begs to be watched.
But unlike the uniqlock, this campaign ‘Dry in Motion’ is actually not weird and irreverent (albeit in that very compelling japanese way), but conceptually and strategically very strong. Oh, and it doesn’t hurt that absolutely everything looks good in super slo-mo. What I really like is how they show the same clip at different speeds, aided by power of good graphic design.

Magnetism in deep space is not the usual subject matter for short films, but Magnetic Movie does a beautiful job of bringing the subject to life. I can’t help thinking how similar this is to data visualisation – bringing out the inner beauty of things are that we cannot see.
My only criticism is that you can’t embed the film, so you’ll have to hit the jump to see it. Please do though, it’s very beautiful.

“People in order: 1 – 100″ is a simple idea and an anthropologists wet dream. I love the difference in outlook on life that can be inferred from the way they touch/play/hit/belt the drum.

I have no idea how this works but the concept is that good that I don’t care. The new SC/4 idents by Proud Creative are voice-reactive which means the edit changes each and every time a new voice-over is laid over it. Theoretically this means that no one will ever see the exact same ident twice, which is nothing particularly new online, but quite something in the world of broadcast.

Its that time of year again, everyone starts racking their brains for the world’s greatest xmas card and in the end produces something combining snowflakes and company headshots (again). But not doubleyou… No, no, those kooky catalonians have once again shown themselves for the true leaders that they are with this brilliant, not-too-xmassy, fun and above all, memorable ‘card’ (albeit from last year). Enjoy.
PS: if anyone gets their card this year, please paste it in the comments. I’d be well interested to know how they follow this up…

Just got sent this absolutely crazy 3D clip. It looks very much like the inspiration for the new Guiness spot ‘Music’, which itself is a very nice extrapolation of this idea…

There’s something deliciously sick and twisted about watching a bunny melt according to various different methods of (heat)torture. I think my favourite has to be the light though, because for some reason the sagging face reminds me of all those ill people who get facelifts instead of growing old gracefully. Beautifully shot by Sander Plug

This is an amazing stop-motion film charting the (literal) rise of the Tokyo skyline. Not even being 35 years old, the sheer dedication and ambition of the task truly astounds…

MK12 finally release their long-anticipated History of America brought to you by Thomas Bostwick II (nice touch). I’ve written about the aesthetic before, but I have to say it looks even better across 30 mins. Watch it! Watch it NOW!

Very interesting film about Naomi Klein’s new book, with Banksy-style graff animation done by the Foreign Office. Check the book’s microsite on the guardian. Published here in the UK from September 20th, it looks like this will be another must-read for anyone that actually gives a shit about what happens anywhere apart from their bedrooms. I’ll report back then…

This is funny in that slightly twisted Pixar-way, yet very very disturbing at the same time… Mind you I did send it round today, as well as blogging it, so something’s working…

If you can believe it, this was apparently a student film! Very surreal, with a great narrative, brilliant animation and it doesn’t take itself too seriously. Pretty fucking amazing IMHO :)
