This is beautifully poetic salary comparison charts the gap between the wages of the CEO and his emmployee’s (in the USA?). A simple change in the scale of heads has never had such dual resonance. Enough to make your blood boil, even if the data visualisation itself is so cute!

They might not have the imposing scale of his canvasses, but if Mark Rothko had a polaroid he would’ve made beautiful images a lot like Grant Hamilton. I really like the faded, almost 70’s quality of the colours. Such a nice distinction from our perfectly flat/uniform fields of computer-generated colour. Reminds me a bit of iso50…

Seems as though I didn’t pay my domain name bill :-p Anyway, we’re back up and running now, so you can return to breathing normally. Phew.

If you can believe it, this was apparently a student film! Very surreal, with a great narrative, brilliant animation and it doesn’t take itself too seriously. Pretty fucking amazing IMHO :)

Some simple electronics and a pursuit of what i would call ‘invisible interaction’ forms the basis of the Zygote ball by tangible interaction. Check the movie for the lowdown. Sure its not going to change the world, but who wouldn’t punch it? So that makes it a definite success…

The beauty of being Moose Curtis is that he can’t ever be busted for graffiti – after all, he’s only cleaning something (even though its very localised) not technically defacing it. A little corporate for the average painter but hey, if you’re into helping, then commercialism seems like a no-brainer, right? :-p

Interesting article on the BBC about a new Facebook app called Cityware that “tracks encounters in the real world via Bluetooth” in order to help you “find out more information about ‘familiar strangers’”. The stated ambition of the project is to “have mobile phones alert each other when in the proximity of another Facebook user who shares common interests or common friends”. hmmmmmm, bears more than just passing resemblance to this quote don’t you think? :-p

Not sure how new this is, but news.com has something called ‘hot news’ (the top image) which is essentially a real-time data visualisation of the most popular stories. Definitely the next level above what most news services provide and we’re certainly going to see more of it – that is, ways of visualising the massive amounts of data we’re contantly and increasingly being bombarded with into more easily digestibel byte-sized chunks. I just hope that Marcos Weskamp of the much more elegant original (bottom image) got some financial action out of it!

The sequel to Coke’s brilliant Happiness Factory has just been released by W+K Amsterdam / Psyop. Epic in scale (and at 3.5 mins, duration as well), our protagonist goes on a LOTR-esque quest to restore the Coke ‘tree of life’. This is fun and irreverent advertising at its best. There’s very little ‘product’ at all, instead relying on association, and this makes it all the more memorable.

In this teaser site (for what looks suspiciously like an iPhone but is obviously not), you have to pause the Kubrick-esque video at the correct ‘place’ in order to see the rest of the content. This consists of a series of very beautiful little clips, but with almost no apparent meaning. Although I have no idea what this is about, I salute the bravery of both client and agency…

HypoSurface is a wall with a personality problem – it doesn’t like staying still! Check the videos after the jump, its properly cool in the “holy-shit that redefines the way i look at everyday objects” way. They say its responsive, but in most of the vids it looks just plain aggresive ;)

Sometimes you just have to have a laugh at yourself and thank god you’re not yet bald or this would be waaaay to close to the bone ;)

Check this billboard for the WWF in Canada – such a perfect execution of a truly simple (and insightful) idea. Using an awning cut in the shape of waves to cast a shadow, which changes during the course of the day.
