Simple, effective idea for HotWheels that rediscovers that long-lost feeling of childhood – you know, where everything in your entire world (read: your parent’s house) is a playground made just for you. Except this time around, the language is one of F1 circuit graphics and is aimed squarely at getting your dad to remember… And in the process you’ll (hopefully!) get a new car ;)

The second series of ads in as many weeks to take a naughty/sexy approach to content. Done for the Konzerthaus Dortmund, and using a really nice minimalist-line style of illustration to visually reinforce the friendly feeling of the strapline “A place where music feels at home”.

Lovely little treasure trove of random, funny, inspiring (and otherwise) wall scribbles. Gives some insight into the vernacular creativity bubbling away in people all over the world – whether they make a living off of it or not. via Leigh

Very interesting little idea from the London-based collective Team that flips the idea of consumerism as an individual choice on its head. In their version, you choose how much to pay. This could be interesting in and of itself if they were simply exploring honesty, but they’re more interested in the social mechanisms of the collective vs the individual. So in their vending machine, how much you pay affects what the next person gets.
Seems like an interesting couple of hours could be spent at the ICA sorting the philanthropists from the penny-pinchers!

Really nice art direction here using hand-illustrated typography to bring to life the onomatopoeia of very visual, albeit everyday, things. The copy at the bottom of the ads ran: “Blind see what they hear. Help them to see more. Braille League” which personally I think is weak and confusing as braille (at least in my experience) is a very silent thing…

Not so sure about the product – alcohol + water just sounds boring, even if it is effective – but this spot for Smirnoff Source is an intriguing study of water and rhythm and so well worth a look.

I’m not entirely sure how Google – with the seemingly limitless amount of resources at its disposal – can so blatantly and shamelessly copy someone else’s (brilliant) idea? The only interesting thing is how hilariously nerdy the google office looks! Almost exactly like the even more famous one Slough!

5 Segons (5 Seconds in english) is a really lovely little idea that takes a ubiquitous cultural object (in this case the youtube scrubber) and through the sheer simplicity of the idea, repurposes it to become something entirely different. The ambient sound and lack of any voiceover only reinforces the message of it not being a big deal.

If you’re interested in the new MK12 piece History of America where cowboys fight astronauts for control of the frontier (and frankly, who wouldn’t be?!) then this making of is def worth a look… Its really interesting and insightful to see all the different passes at the same time and understand a little better how that beautiful aquarelle aesthetic is created…

Nice series of illustrations from Honda illuminating jargon-heavy product points in an interesting and certainly very different-to-their-competitors way. The quirky style reminds me of a blend between Parra and the recent Nike 6.0 aerial stuff. Click through for the other 3 in the series.

OK, I’ve written about Thriller spoofs before, but this is goes “straight to the pool room” aka the G.O.A.T. archive! I couldn’t stop laughing ;) Absolutely brilliant, even down to the shitty effect they did over the original footage… And the drag queen – OMG hilarious! Certainly some soap dropping going down in this Philipino prison, but what I’m really wondering is how on earth they chose MJ?

This site for Checkland Kindleysides is a nice translation into digital of the amazing work of Peter Callesen (above). Sure it lacks the beautiful 3Dimensionality of real paper, but the effect is still nice. They also use Mrs Eaves which is one of the nicest sets of ligatures around, if a little overused now :(

Virgin Mobile Australia has launched a new campaign around the strap “Are you with us or what?” which uses a Flickr feed to populate the site – overlaid with an insightful question to which you’re encouraged to respond. But because they are using a certain CC license, they didn’t (and rightly so) ask permission and now there’s a lively debate raging.
Personally, the fact that every image carries a link to the author’s Flickr account, is enough for me… Getting your stuff in front of as many eyeballs as possible has to be a good thing – even if a massive corporate can be seen to be profiting off you for nothing… Welcome the CC future ;)

Brilliantly simple visual reinforcement of the line “Sensodyne Protects” – with lots of black and just a centred logo / tagline at the bottom. via i believe in adv
