The winner of the online Adicolor competition has just been announced, and its this pair of Hokusai-inspired kicks from Ari Lankin from NYC - which is fitting I guess, as they will be produced in a super-limited edition of 25 pairs, and only available from the NY Originals store

Following on from Adidas being the first sports brand in Second Life, Reebok have beaten Nike to the punch by allowing users to buy white Reebok kicks and then customise them in-game…

Certainly one of the cooler street brands around is WESC, and their new travel guides are certainly in keeping with this image. Its like product placement, but they created the product… Part catalogue, part travel guide - they’re an embodied mashup of the lifestyle the brand promotes. The only thing that would make this better is if the content was user-generated… Now THERE’s an idea… Any fashion brands listening out there?

OK, this is a shameless piece of self-promotion, but yours truly has been published in Computer Arts. The piece covers digital branding and in a nutshell my argument goes something like this:
What is becoming interesting is that online brands can - and indeed must - interact individually with the end-user. To this end, systems as opposed to static logos are the future. Finally is also no reason why brand identities will remain exempt from the remix/web 2.0 phenomenon.

Get dressed up, cause the Victory Mansions crew (myself, Dangerous Dave and Ana P) are having a halloween bash this saturday night… You know the drill ;)

Not sure how old this one is, but Miss Magnum is possibly the greatest way to sell icecream to men i’ve ever seen ;) If you can forgive the sound and the non colour-balanced videos (and you’re male) this will make you smile. Although I can understand they wanted to communicate the fact that these are real girls, in a real club, but the sound is just waaaayyyy to loud and annoying. The same message could’ve been delivered in a more elegant way…

Not nearly in the same league as the subtle RS4 spot, this new A6 spot is still very watchable… It makes a simple statement but its really the editing and combination of archival stock with motion graphics which makes this noteworthy IMHO.

DDB Barcelona gives precision engineering an unusual treatment in this elegant new spot for Audi’s RS4 performance vehicle. Lyrically animated technical drawings accompany a delicate piano solo - not exactly the expected low-down-car-porn-shot-with-revving-engine you’d normally expect. It is this absence of convention that makes this spot beautiful and extremely emotive nonetheless…

This new spot from Ikea is one of the best ads I’ve seen in ages. Like always - a very simple idea executed with humour = a winning combination.
Ikea sells shit - but hey, its cheap so everyone buys it anyway… So what better way to highlight this than not show the product at all and focus simply on price… but do it with humour. Oh, and having a client with the balls to agree to a completely black TV spot is a rare-occurence indeed. Brilliant…

A lovely 60-year time-lapse of one of my favourite cities by Douglas Levere. Much has changed, but in images 19/20 at least, its nice to see that at least some things remain the same…

Started in Berlin by Xgeronimo and continued in Seoul by Rebelbaby, “I _ this ad” brings dialogue to the one-way street that has been Ad-land for as long as we all can remember. Though not the first time this idea has been done, what I like about this version is the nice hybrid between the über-crafted language of advertising and the off-the-cuff language of online emoticons… It’s not quite Web 2.0 for outdoor, but its a start to giving voice - and dialogue - back to the normally voiceless targets of the Ad beast.

NYC-based digital agency BigSpaceship has released the code for what looks to be a pretty damn impressive Flash dev tool - in fact the very same one they developed for their recent nikeair work… Being barley proficient in AS, this will mean more to others than myself, but is definitely worth keeping an eye on.

Some researches at Northwestern Uni have created a prototype of a virtual nightly news show graphically based on a half-life-esque engine that AUTO spiders net news outlets + blogs, collects the data and then feeds this through a text-to speech synthesizer for a virtual newsreader to deliver. If you’ve ever wondered what its like to have to kill some aliens mid-sentence, then the video is for you ;)
